COACHES REPORT
Another year with nothing but good news to report! A busy year for all the gymnasts with the highlight for many being our BIG outing to Gymfest in Inverness.
The year started extremely well with some of our top gymnasts being invited to compete in a Pre-Novice Competition in Invergordon. All our girls performed very well and in particular our 10 year olds who won all the gold medals in their section.
Onto Gymfest - 1997 was due to be the last year that Inverness would host Gymfest - with this in mind the coaches decided that we would take as many gymnasts as possible down to this event. With a lot of hard work from both gymnasts and coaches the final figure was 67 (girls & boys with ages ranging from 4 to 14!!) Everyone had a great day only spoiled at the last minute by an unfortunate incident at MacDonalds.
June - and our Club Competition - this went very well and for the first year we ran floor, vault & beam competitions simultaneously. The competition was open to all members of the club, and on the whole, most participated. Once again no winners were announced at the competitions but at our Prize Giving and Party Night.
After the summer break everyone went straight back into training and practising for what turned out to be our best ever Christmas Show. Although it was hard work producing the show over two nights it was well worth it and will definitely be repeated in future years.
Ten of the Senior Class went down to train at the Inverness Club and gave the coaches a chance to meet other gymnastic coaches from around the Highlands. These training days have since proved more benefit to the gymnasts than the coaches and Gael Force Ten (governing body) are now looking to re-structure these days to lean more towards teaching coaching techniques rather than training lots of gymnasts.
